Handpicked: Sugar Tree Café
This week’s handpicked is the Sugar Tree Café in Kilmacanogue, Ireland. Situated in the leafy grounds of the old Jameson estate in County Wicklow, known as the Garden of Ireland, the café is styled after a traditional Victorian fern house. As you walk through the white double doors, you’re greeted with the aroma of fresh baking and seasonal flowers. Exposed wooden roof beams, mismatched chairs in various shades of pastel and a wall of floral, decorative plates create a cosy atmosphere in the bustling café. The menu changes regularly, with dishes appearing and disappearing depending on the availability of fresh ingredients, many of which are grown by the café themselves. A cult favourite amongst regulars to the café is the Beef Stroganoff. Made with sweet Hungarian paprika, French brandy and a dash of Dijon mustard, this hearty dish is the perfect winter warmer.
