Top 5: London pizzas

Homeslice

Originally, Homeslice was a hand built mobile wood-fired oven which toured markets and festivals serving their delicious slices but given its popularity and success, it was time to secure a permanent home. This was the start of Homeslice as we now know it, tucked away in Neal’s Yard and always accompanied by an eager-looking queue. Their 20″ pizzas are also available in Fitzrovia and Shoreditch so there’s no excuse to go and sample these winning flavours.

Voodoo Ray’s

If you thought 20″ pizzas were large, Voodoo Ray’s takes it to the next level with their 22″ New York-style creations which are served by the slice. Don’t feel short-changed, two slices equal a whole 11″ pizza. This is perfect if you’re on the move as you can drop by and grab a slice and if you’re roaming after midnight, be sure to pop by for an after hours special.

Franco Manca

You know you’re eating something special when the base is made from slow-rising sourdough which takes a minimum of 20 hours and then baked in a special oven made on site by specialised artisans from Naples. Luckily, these pizza experts have popped up all over London so wherever you are, you won’t be too far from these delicious creations. http://www.francomanca.co.uk/

Pizza East

We’re particular fans of Pizza East Shoreditch (though you can also find it in Kentish Town, Portobello and even Istanbul). Based in a former tea warehouse, this trendy establishment offers a great atmosphere complete with wood oven pizzas, fresh antipasti and ever-changing specials.  http://www.pizzaeast.com/shoreditch

Sourdough Saloon

With a name like this you’re already onto a winner but the fun doesn’t stop there. The Sourdough Saloon Pizza Co is based in the Lord Morpeth pub – just a short walk from Victoria Park. With a range of craft beers, ales, lagers and wines on offer in addition to a juke box, board games and even a pinball machine this is a great spot to switch off with a group of friends and enjoy your pizza.
